What to Know Before You Go
Spring and autumn suit the widest range of city, mountain, and desert routes, but the best dates still depend on elevation, coast, and the pace you prefer.
Summer heat is strongest inland, winter nights are cold in the desert and mountains, and coastal weather can stay mild but windy. Pack for the route rather than for one city forecast.
Use hotter months for earlier starts and longer midday breaks. In winter, protect daylight for transfers and outdoor visits instead of overloading late afternoons.
